Overview
The ESA Diploma in Sponsorship and Sports Marketing is the only formal qualification in sponsorship and sports marketing, and is designed for those wishing to build their knowledge and learn more about the commercial world of sponsorship. The Diploma course is fully accredited by The Marketing Institute.
As a flexible, distance-learning course it allows those working full-time to study when convenient and develop a successful career in sponsorship and marketing.
It also covers a broad range of themes meaning it is suitable for candidates across a wide range of industries and is just as appropriate for middle/senior management who wish to test and expand their existing knowledge as it is for those aspiring to gain entry to the sponsorship industry.
The Irish course is exactly the same as that experienced by all worldwide students, although there are plans (depending upon popularity) to include some specific Irish elements to the Irish course, which will include in-market visits by Course Director, Peter Raymond. Irish students will have full access to all of the UK-based seminars (via the course website), be eligible for monthly tutorials and be able to form their own in-market support group.

“I was delighted to be given the opportunity, and be part of the class for ESA’s Diploma 2020. Peter, the Course Director, is experienced and passionate about Sports Marketing; his energy and enthusiasm was palpable from Day 1. I found the course content extremely helpful in developing and strengthening my knowledge in Sponsorship and Sports Marketing, and the duration of the course was just right. The course modules were interesting, relevant and practical, drawing on national and international examples of exceptional Sports Sponsorships campaigns. These were followed by a Set Brief exercise, which allowed us to implement what we had learned throughout the course in an imaginative and creative way. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone considering a career in Sports Marketing, and I look forward to applying my new found knowledge at work!”

“The ESA Diploma in Sponsorship & Sports Marketing, ran in partnership with the MII, provides an unique opportunity to creatively learn about the prevailing commercial world of Sponsorship negotiation, regulation, activation and evaluation from a sponsor, agent and right holder’s perspective. The life cycle of a Sponsorship and how Sports Marketing manifests itself today is taught through contemporary and insightful course material, access to cutting edge sponsorship intelligence websites and seminars from some of the most renowned and passionate practitioners in the sporting Sponsorship space. These teachings are applied to challenging and enjoyable modular assignments and culminating in a Set Brief - as an example, in 2020 this was to present partnership recommendations for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. As someone coming from a legal background, I would highly recommend the Diploma to anyone, across various related industries, interested in developing their understanding of where sponsorship fits in to the business of sport generally and improving their marketing and people competencies.”

"I thoroughly enjoyed the ESA Diploma. The course was challenging but that’s good because it means you’re learning continuously and putting those learnings into action throughout the course. I was lucky enough to be promoted within PWC recently and I have the diploma to thank for that – my experiences with the course got me across the line. I found the content extremely good – as someone from the brand-side of the industry it was really interesting to get new perspectives and I found the course gave me a really broad knowledge of the whole industry."

"I couldn’t recommend this course highly enough. It was a challenge but being taught by someone with such an amazing passion about the discipline of sponsorship is amazing. I’m just starting out my career in sponsorship so it was an amazing learning curve and has equipped me with the skills I need to move forward. Within CSM it’s already opened up some conversations, so as a qualification it’s obviously well thought-of within the business and the industry."
