My Life After College: Shauna Moran
In your words write a short summary about you and what you are up to now since your graduation?
Hi! My name is Shauna Moran. I graduated from Institute of Technology Sligo with a first-class honour’s degree in Marketing last June. I am currently employed as a Sales & Marketing Executive within McCormacks Fuel based in County Sligo.
How did you acquire your current role?
I applied for my current role through Indeed Jobs just after I finished up college at the end of May 2020. I was delighted to be invited to the interview process. I had to undergo 3 rounds of interviews and I was thrilled when I was contacted and offered job. It meant the world to me to be able to work in a marketing role for a company in the North West of Ireland.
What are your responsibilities as a Sales and Marketing Executive within McCormacks Fuel?
Some of my responsibilities here in McCormacks Fuel as a Sale & Marketing Executive include developing, managing and tracking the progress of any marketing campaigns within McCormacks Fuel. I am responsible for the creation of all content used on our social media platforms. I also have to work through the back end of our website to ensure that the prices are correct and link up to the system we use here in the office.
What does a typical day working and studying at home look like for you?
My day begins with coffee! I start my day off by checking and replying to emails. I then monitor all social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn and respond to any unread messages. I have spent this week working alongside management on our social media strategy for the upcoming months. This involves drafting social media posts and using tools such a Photoshop & Canva to create content that will be used on these sites. I have established a good work routine and one thing that is vital for me is to ensure that I get out for a 10 to 15-minute walk on my lunch break to clear my mind.
What is something you know now that you wish you knew when you had graduated?
Something I did not realise when I graduated was how hard it is to even get a reply from a job application. It can be very disheartening to spend so long perfecting your CV and writing a cover letter to not even get noticed by an employer but do not be put off by rejection! Keep a positive mindset and the perfect job for you will come. Always remember (and as cliché as it gets) “What is for you will not pass you!”
What is your plan for the future?
I hope to return to college part time to complete a postgraduate diploma within the next year. I have really enjoyed getting to apply the theory I learned during my studies to really life business scenarios. However, I think I am ready to return to the books again! I hope to continue gain experience in the marketing industry and to progress in my career.
